09 AugShoreTel updates IP Telephone System with ShoreTel 11
ShoreTel has recently announced ShoreTel 11, a new release of code for its IP Telephone System platform. This new release has some great new features focused on user productivity, including one that we have been eagerly awaiting.
Here are some highlights:
- ShoreTel has renamed its end-user client interface from ShoreTel Call Manager to ShoreTel Communicator
- ShoreTel Communicator officially supported under Windows 7
- ShoreTel Communicator now has a browser-based version which means Apple/Mac users can now use the client interface regardless of PC platform – most popular browsers supported
- Mobile Communicator for more Smart phones. For those of you who use an iPhone and have wanted to run the mobile Call Manager on your iPhone, Release 11 provides a version of Mobile Communicator that is available as an APP that can be downloaded from the App Store for the iPhone (mobile license required of course). The list of other mobile devices supported has grown also and now includes the BlackBerry Storm and BlackBerry Tour, as well as some new Nokia and Samsung phones.
The exact date that you will be able to upgrade will vary somewhat depending upon the current release of code that you are running. We think it is safe to say that upgrades can occur for most systems in the September and October timeframe. By then, ShoreTel is expected to announce a very cool, new, high end telephone handset as well.
We want to inform our ShoreTel system and maintenance customers that this new firmware has been released and will soon be available so that you can plan ahead. There is no requirement to upgrade at this time if you would rather not. As you should all recall, the cost of the firmware is “free” with a valid current maintenance agreement for your ShoreTel system.
If you have any questions or would like to inquire about upgrading your system, please feel free to reach out to your Eastern DataComm contact person.
